ART BACKGROUND

A love of art saw Murray drawing since childhood. In addition to training in charcoal drawings and oils, he spent a further 3 years training as a potter.

In a varied career Murray has worked with tutors of the Flying Art School in Queensland as well as fellow artists in Scotland. His serious commitment to art began in 1980, with painting becoming a full time occupation in 1995.

EXHIBITIONS

Murray’s first one man show was staged in Queensland in 1985, and was been followed by numerous one man and group exhibitions in South Australia. His work is displayed and sold solely at Mr Mick Cellar Door and Kitchen. A modest man, Murray's work has won several awards and is represented in corporate and private collections around the world.

Painting in a distinctive style with strong use of colour, Murray uses all mediums, mainly in landscapes and figure works with an occasional still life. He employed an impressionist technique and style with emphasis on communicating his response to subject matter. Murray was involved with concepts, moods and personalities of things, rather than with realism.

Robert Frost (American Poet), Lloyd Rees, Marc Chagall, Brett Whiteley, Van Gogh, Monet, Arthur Boyd, Ivor Hele and many others.
